BNP Paribas Makes a Strategic Entry Into Nordic Wealth Management
BNP Paribas is expanding its wealth management business into the Nordic region, marking a new phase in the French banking group’s efforts to deepen its presence among wealthy private clients across Northern Europe. The move will focus particularly on ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs and family offices.
The expansion builds on BNP Paribas’ existing operations across Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The bank already has a substantial regional presence spanning corporate and institutional banking, asset management, insurance, leasing and other financial services, giving its new wealth management operation an established local platform.
The strategy is designed to connect BNP Paribas’ corporate and institutional capabilities with its international wealth management network. This model could allow entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses to access investment banking, financing, investment management and private wealth advisory services through a more integrated relationship.
Stina Norrhede Appointed to Lead the Nordic Wealth Business
BNP Paribas has appointed Stina Norrhede as Head of Wealth Management for the Nordic region. She joins from Swedish financial group SEB, where she most recently led its Professional Family Office business.
Norrhede will be responsible for developing the regional strategy, building the local wealth management team and expanding the client base across the Nordic markets. Her previous experience working with family offices gives the new operation a leadership profile closely aligned with BNP Paribas’ intended focus on entrepreneurs, wealthy families and sophisticated investors.
The appointment comes as BNP Paribas continues to strengthen its Nordic franchise through senior hires across several business lines. The group has previously expanded its investment banking, equity, financial sponsors and institutional coverage capabilities in the region, indicating a broader effort to increase its local reach rather than relying solely on its existing international network.
Rising Wealth Creates New Opportunities Across the Nordics
The Nordic countries represent a significant pool of private wealth, with BNP Paribas highlighting a population of approximately 75 billionaires and 10,000 ultra-high-net-worth individuals in the region. The combination of established family businesses, entrepreneurship and innovation has created demand for increasingly specialized wealth services.
BNP Paribas Wealth Management manages more than €533 billion in assets globally as of June 2026 and employs nearly 7,000 professionals serving high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. Bringing that platform into the Nordics gives the bank an opportunity to offer regional clients access to its broader investment capabilities, including private markets, financing solutions and multigenerational wealth planning.
The Nordic expansion also fits into a wider transformation of private banking, where wealthy clients increasingly seek services that combine investment management with business financing, succession planning and access to private-market opportunities. BNP Paribas’ new regional structure is intended to address those needs while establishing a dedicated local wealth management presence across one of Europe’s most developed and internationally connected wealth markets.
